NEW HORIZONS IN THE WORLD OF ACCESSORIES
WOLFORD Bag
Lingerie and Accessories
Major lingerie companies are now positioning themselves as global brands.
The Austrian brand WOLFORD, traditionally known for their hosiery
and their high end bodywear, has now expanded into ready-to-wear with Antonio
Berardi as head designer. They are also launching a small line of bags for summer
2007 that includes a briefcase, an evening bag and a casual bag, as well as a
collection of smaller leather goods.
The Italian lingerie brand LA PERLA is diversifying into the shoe and bag market with the launch of their “Grigioperla” collection. An introductory line will be premiered at LA
PERLA boutiques for winter 2007, with a full market launch of the complete collection scheduled for summer 2008.
In contrast, Italian luxury shoe maker, CESARE PICIOTTI, is launching a line of men and women’s lingerie and swimwear. The lingerie collection will be launched in their boutiques as of winter ’07. These collections are in addition to an already diversified line which includes sunglasses, jewellery and small leather goods. The complete range of products will be available at their Sloane Street boutique, opening in June 2007.
Sports and Accessories
Sports shoe specialist PUMA is now expanding into “outdoor” accessories. Dutch designer Marcel Wanders has been commissioned to design a line of fun accessories that include a shopping bag in Teflon fabric and a caddie icebox. The collection will be available at PUMA concept stores as of summer 2007.
Office Accessories
For winter 08-09 PROMOSTYL proposes men’s accessories based on functionality with a hint of fashion aesthetic, such as messenger bag for laptops made of materials such as thermo-moulded rubber, leather and wood. The women’s version would have additional fashion details.
Luxury Basics
Traditional shoe brands go high-end :
RONDINAUD, manufacturer of charentaises (traditional French slippers), is expanding into the luxury market by using new materials such as astrakhan, tweed and crocodile skin. The soles have also been updated to be worn outside. The Rondinaud de Luxe collection was successfully launched at the last PREMIERE CLASSE in Paris.
SCHOLL has expanded its line to include more glamorous versions of its well-known orthopaedic sandals. This new collection includes details such as Plexiglas and wooden heels, available in specialty boutiques.
